The Tools You Need

What is Balance? One-third of all adults over age 65 experience dizziness and/or balance problems. Falls are the leading cause of injury in older adults. Five percent of all falls lead to fractures and can be disabling. What can physical therapy do for loss of balance? Therapists at Tice Valley Physical Therapy will provide individualized assessments to determine the cause(s) of decreased balance and fall risks. Posture, balance, strength, coordination and function are all addressed during this assessment and from there, our physical therapists develop a customized program to address these deficiencies. Throughout the treatment process, we will conduct periodic reassessments to gauge your improvement. Treatment consists of strengthening key muscle groups, improving balance reactions and integrating vision-sensation-vestibular information. We also help you deal with balance challenges in various environmental situations, such as curbs, uneven surfaces, and sudden changes in direction. Our approach gives patients the tools to regain control of their lives, gaining independence while helping prevent falls.
